The Beatles and their legacy have to be taken in context. Bob Dylan, like Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen & Lou Reed had character voices. Your vocal chords like a lot of body parts, become lax with age, hence the dropping down of keys employed by a lot of older singers. If anyone goes to any of these gigs and expect to hear vocals sung like at their prime, they're deluded. McCartney doesn't need the money and continues for other reasons.

This is so simple. We age. Of course they aren't as good now. Some should really probably bow out gracefully. But then again, the pull of performing and being in front of an audience is like an addiction, I would think.

You could also include John Fogerty from CCR in there. He forced his throat a lot to get that raspy and howling voice when he was young. Now he has lost it completely. Although you gotta give the man some credit, he's constantly touring and hitting those high notes, not with the same voice but impressive for an almost 80 year old

Is Street Fighting Man the original single take or the same take as on Beggars Banquet? There is a big difference in the vocal and this original version is quite rare.

I was a die-hard fan of the Classic Yes Lineup-Anderson, Squire, Bruford, Howe Wakeman-when I was in high school. Yessongs, Close To The Edge, and Fragile got me THROUGH high school. Yes has become The Ship Of Thesus-if you replace every part, is it still the same ship? To me the "nucleus" of Yes was Anderson, Squire, and Howe. Any band with those three members can be called Yes. Anderson-Wakeman-Bruford-Howe was 1/2 founding members of Yes while "Yes" only had one. Now Yes has 0 founding members. New sounds, new directions, any creative purpose to the current lineup? Nope. They just gig and Play Close To The Edge for the umpteeth time.

You mention slight changes to the mix, but what about the mastering? is it more flat/neutral, how are the lows, mids, highs versus previous digital editions like the original fatboy double CD and the later remaster? I'm particularly interested to know if Barrie's drums are any clearer for example?

I wouldn't say all of them gone the same level bad, the worst ones in my opinion seemed to be Bob Dylan, Axl Rose, Vince Neil, Bon Jovi, Phil Collins, and Paul Stanley. The rest don't seem as bad to me. Sure, voices can deteriorate to some degree as we age, but that doesn't always mean they generally sound bad nowadays compared to years ago. I even got to see Elton live once, and he sounded great even though he couldn't do falsettos anymore.

Lip syncing is what killed Ashlee Simpsons career, yet most singers do it.

I've never like Axl Rose's voice or Vince Neil's. They both sound like screeching parrots. I saw a recent clip of Neil singing Dr. Feelgood live and my God...not only could he not sing, he couldn't even get the lyrics right. It was just garbled nonsense.

Michael Bolton was s household name in around 1990 95 or so. I know not a Rock singer but went through the same thing. My old boss said of him. "Remember when Michael Bolton was such a star. I saw him (on a TV special). Wow he has Old Man Voice" Some of the ladies I listen to having the same thing happen like Natalie Merchant except she can still sound like her glory days it just requires her to dig much deeper now. We all get old and worn out. Mick Jagger somehow managed to keep his voice in shape.

The Marshall Tucker band should retire. The lead singer is too old and his voice is terrible. I went to one of their concert and I wasted my time and money.

We went to the Marshall Tucker band concert in sun valley, Idaho on Labor Day weekend in 2022. It was awful. The lead singer is way too old and his voice was terrible. It was more like a band rehearsal than a concert. I don't think the crowd was into it as they were more interested in drinking than listening to the music.

"Scary monsters" was quite famous back then with hits like "Fashion" and Ashes to Ashes" - in fact, both songs brought a much wider audience to Bowie. It is for sure not underrated. Reached 1 on British charts (and Platinum) and even 8 in Germany..

I will never forget the interview Roger Waters gave on MTV declaring how he was Pink Floyd. It completely turned me off from ever having to listen to Roger Waters again. I couldn't believe how egotistical he was coming off. If people nowadays saw that video they themselves would be so disgusted. Even at Roger Waters concerts the beginning starts with telling everyone if they don't agree with his political views to go screw off and go to the bar. What an ass.

Not in this video but personally I don't like T-Rex. Too repetitive. Most obvious example of this is saying na na na na na na over and over again at the end of one of their biggest hits. Really naff.

I'd say the Rolling Stones is over rated. Yes, they had a lot of classic songs early on, but by 2016 the band had recorded 422 songs. If the band had 40 classic to decent songs, that would leave over 90% filler. If it was 80 songs, it would still leave 81% filler.

McCartney's still singing that song in the same key, I notice.

Sting. David Lee Roth. Lou Gramm. Paul Simon. Joni Mitchell. Billy Joel. Who now depends on AI to re-create his voice or at least process it in order to release a new single. BONO. Who seems to talk or rap the lyrics to their song live and employee the old holding out the mic to let the audience sing the parts they can’t sing trick. Bono is now both Insufferable and Sufferable. It would be interesting to explore whose voice is still or were still excellent and perhaps expand a little bit outside classic rock into other genres area and like soft rock.

Meanwhile, Michael Kiske of Helloween can still sing stuff he sang in when 18 in the original key. Almost no alcohol, no smoking, no drugs. Yes, there's more difficulties, the voice is less powerful. But he can still do it.

Good review - thanks! I first heard Tormato when I was about 16 and thought it was complete pants. About 30 years later I re-listened to it, and realised some of it was actually pretty good. First three songs, and the last one in particular. I agree - it could certainly do with a remix.
